“From the very beginning, Chris established what we were going to achieve and he has always had my safety and wellbeing in mind. I had to wait for two years for my hip operation but even when I was in pain, I kept up my training sessions and Chris was always very sympathetic. And after the operation, his expertise as an occupational therapist was so useful: he understood the challenges associated with recovery, and he knew how far I could safely go.
During my career, I worked at a desk but I’ve always been very active at weekends – I do lots of hill-walking and I maintain a large garden. I was conscious of my strength and mobility deteriorating with age, and I was determined to do something about it. Now, the functional exercises I do with Chris help to keep me mobile and resilient. We talk about a lot of different things and that’s beneficial, too. Once you’re retired, it’s easy to become isolated.
Every day, I do a set of exercises Chris has devised for me and the weekly 1:1 sessions supplement that. You have to be disciplined if you want to see positive results but my mobility has definitely returned – I can walk for miles again now.”
